The FSHA determines initial eligibility based on three factors:1. Annual gross income*2. Federal preference3. Criminal record. FSHA may request further documentation to determine if the applicant qualifies. FSHA will deny Section 8 applicants who demonstrates negative actions or behaviors which will have a detrimental effect on the neighboring residents and environment. *The FSHA uses income guidelines established by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Below are the guidelines for the Sebastian County area.

Request and application in person or online at http://www.fortsmithhousing.org/Section8/Application.aspx. After the initial application is received, an applicant is placed on the waitlist according to their application date, time and preference. Once an applicant's name reaches the top, a letter will be mailed with an eligibility interview date and time. The time an applicant may wait for housing assistance depends on the availability of assistance. The average wait for Section 8 voucher assistance in Sebastian County is 1 to 4 years.
