Please see individual sites for scheduling details.Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) is a free program primarily offered to seniors 55 and older which is operated by certified volunteers and allows seniors the opportunity to file and direct deposit their tax refund for free.Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides community members with free tax preparation and financial literacy. The program is operated by certified volunteers and allows clients the opportunity to file and direct deposit their tax refund for free and ensure proper tax credits are utilized.NOTE: Beginning in 2017, a new law requires the IRS to hold refunds on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until mid-February. Under the change required by Congress in the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS must hold the entire refund--even the portion not associated with the EITC and ACTC--until at least February 15. This change helps ensure that the taxpayers get the refund they are owed by giving the IRS more time to help detect and prevent fraud.OJO: A partir de 2017, una nueva ley aprobada por el Congreso requiere que el IRS retenga reembolsos de impuestos que reclaman el EITC o el ACTC hasta mediados de febrero. El IRS debe retener el reembolso completo--incluso la porción no asociada con el EITC y ACTC--hasta al menos el 15 de febrero.
