Fixed Routes

The fixed route system consists of six (6) core routes as shown on the fixed route map. Click here for the individual stop times for all the fixed routes. To use the system:Determine your location on the map. Look for the scheduled posted time point of the bus stop just before your location along the route. Allow enough time to assure the bus has not passed your stop. The Transit Department uses a special clock that is synchronized by satellite. Drivers routinely verify their time settings through the dispatch office. To ensure your time is compatible with the bus schedules, call the office at the number listed below.Stand at a marked bus stop sign. Driver will pick up passengers only at designated bus stops. While boarding, place the correct fare, ticket, or voucher in the fare box and inform the driver of your requested destination and then be seated. Please note the seats marked "priority" should be reserved for passengers with limited walking capabilities. Children seven (7) years of age or younger must be accompanied by someone twelve (12) years of age or older.All Fort Smith Transit (FST) buses are lift equipped for mobility devices (i.e. wheelchairs, etc.) and contain the appropriate restraint devices to assure safety. Priority seating is clearly marked for passengers with limited walking capabilities. Guide animals are permitted on FST buses. If you have a special need please advise your driver. See limitations section for further information regarding boarding. Some disabled persons may be eligible for paratransit service. Call the office for an application and information.When desiring assistance on the fixed route system, simply call the transit office and notify the scheduler or dispatcher of your traveling intentions. Transit staff will gladly assist you. If you need special assistance in learning the fixed routes, the staff will ensure that transit drivers are looking for you specifically at your pickup destination.TRANSFERSA transfer is a movement of passengers from one bus to another or one route to another, i.e., board the Rogers bus and transfer to the Towson bus to complete your trip. If you need to transfer, ask the driver for a transfer pass when you first board and pay your fare. There is no charge for transfers. If you are uncertain about how to reach your destination, the driver will assist you. Transfers can only be used at the time they are issued and only at valid transfer points. Transfers are free of charge.TIPS FOR RIDERS It would be helpful to carry the fixed route bus schedule with you when using the system. Stand at a marked bus stop sign. We pick up and drop off at designated bus stop signs. Buses may arrive at the bus stop late, but will not depart earlier than the time indicated on the schedule. Be ready to board when the bus arrives and have the correct fare already in your hand. Children seven (7) years of age or younger must be accompanied by a passenger twelve (12) years of age or older. All seated passengers must wear seatbelts. Child safety restraints may be provided with advanced notice. Passengers may stand and hold onto the handrail, but only if all seats are occupied by other passengers. All passengers should wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before moving to deboard. Please contact the Transit office should you need special assistance. Drivers will provide reasonable assistance in boarding and deboarding. However, in certain instances, the Transit Department may recommend you to obtain a personal care attendance (PCA). PCAs ride free.Fixed Route buses are equipped with bike racks on the front exterior of all buses. Bike racks hold up to two standard, two-wheel, non-motorized bicycles.Cyclists are responsible for loading and unloading their bicycles. FST assumes no responsibility for any damages to bicycles as a result of improper securement for travel.A short training video that illustrates the safe and proper use of the bike rack is ready for you to view. Please come by or schedule a ride to our transit office at 6821 Jenny Lind, view the video, and practice mounting a bike on a bike rack.It is recommended that bikers at the age of 12 years or below be accompanied and assisted by an adult.
